When we think of superheroes, we usually picture them with capes, shiny suits, and extraordinary powers. But life taught me that true heroes don’t need any of that. Real heroes are the children who face illnesses like cancer with indescribable courage.
With small bodies but enormous hearts, they go through painful, exhausting, and challenging medical processes—things that even those of us who walk beside them can never fully understand. As parents and families, we fight with all our strength, but we can never truly grasp what it means for them to live through each treatment, each procedure, each waiting moment.
Heroes are also the doctors, nurses, and medical teams who dedicate their knowledge, care, and compassion every single day to stand by these children in their invisible battles.
In the case of my son, Matías, doctors would always tell me: “He is unbelievably brave.” And they were right. Time and again, he showed a unique strength. He overcame trials that seemed impossible, and even in the hardest moments, he radiated light. His courage inspired not only us as his family, but everyone around him.
That is why I want to close with something that comes from my heart: in this journey, we should never speak of winning or losing the battle. After walking such a profound and complex path, there is no defeat. Every child, every person who faces this illness, is already a victor. All of them are, and always will be, true superheroes. 💙🪽
